Apple Green Granite
Apple Green granite is a coarse-grained South Indian granite quarried near Madurai, characterised by a saturated parrot-green base with darker chlorite flecks. Workhorse material for kitchen counters, staircases and external cladding.
Material Notes, Apple Green Granite
Apple Green is one of the most recognised South Indian green granites, a coarse-grained igneous rock with a base that ranges from a saturated parrot-green to a slightly muted sage, shot through with darker chlorite and feldspar flecks. The “apple” comes from the warm yellow-green undertone that distinguishes it from the cooler Hassan greens.
We source ours from a quarry near Madurai under a direct supply contract. That cuts three layers of merchants out of the path between quarry head and Kochi godown, and shows up directly in your delivered-to-site price.
Where it suits
- Kitchen countertops, low absorption, high breaking strength, takes a mirror polish that highlights the chlorite movement.
- Staircase tread + riser, durable under heavy foot traffic, available in matching cut-to-size pieces.
- Building façade and elevation cladding, UV-stable; the green darkens slightly when wet, then dries back to baseline.
- Bathroom vanity tops, sealed correctly, performs well in Kerala’s humid bathrooms.
- Commercial flooring, restaurants, hotel lobbies, banks where you want patterned colour at a granite price-point.
Where it doesn’t
- High-acid kitchens, extensive lemon/lime/vinegar work etches green granites over years. Specify a leather or honed finish instead of polished if this concerns you.
- External paving under direct salt exposure, coastal projects within 200 m of the sea should use flamed finish with annual sealer reapplication.
